Though your swim spa can be enjoyed through the winter, there are a few maintenance guidelines that should be followed in order to optimise performance during the colder months.
Here we look at just a few of the care tips that will help to keep it functional throughout the year.
Get your swim spa deep cleaned
Having your swim spa deep cleaned with ensure continued operation throughout the winter months, without the need to change the water during the coldest time of the year. Carrying out a complete deep clean will ensure that all pipe work, filters, covers and your swim spa shell will be as clean as possible, helping to keep your swim spa practically maintenance free for the winter.
Keep it covered
It is recommended that a quality, hard, insulating thermal cover be installed and in place when the swim spa is not in use. In addition to hard covers, there are excellent alternatives such as End2End or Covana swim spa covers, which both insulate just as well as hard covers. It’s important to note that tunnels and floating covers may not maintain your required temperature as the winter temperatures drop, so a suitable cover for your swim spa is a worthwhile investment.
The Covana Legend cover is available in a range of different colours and sizes, to suit your swim spa and personal tastes. The cover is designed to cover the entire surface of your hot tub, as well as locking securely to keep children, animals and intruders out.
Ensure the chemical balance is maintained
To ensure that your swim spa is protected and ready for use throughout the winter, it’s important to ensure that you maintain the Alkalinity, pH and sanitiser levels. Check that the total alkalinity of the water is balanced before you start to look at pH levels. To maintain sanitiser levels, a floating dispenser will slowly release sanitising chemicals into the water, helping to maintain the right levels. Continued use throughout the winter is the best way to look after your swim spa. Should you wish to drain your spa, it’s highly recommended that you get a professional company in to properly winterise it. This process includes the draining and complete removal of all water from the main area, pipes, pumps etc and leaving all pipes disconnected after draining. This prevents any water being left in your spa, preventing any freezing related damages. These pipes will of course need to be reconnected by professionals before refilling your spa in the spring time.
